What is a UDI-DI?

The UDI-DI (Device Identifier) is the static part of the Unique Device Identification code. It identifies the specific version or model of a device and the manufacturer (labeller). It must appear on the physical label of the medical device.

Difference vs. Basic UDI-DI:

• UDI-DI: Printed on the packaging. Used for supply chain tracking.
• Basic UDI-DI: The primary key in the EUDAMED database. It groups devices with the same intended purpose and risk class. It is never printed on the packaging.
